In an era where unwanted calls and messages have become a daily nuisance, Airtel has stepped up its game in the battle against digital spam. On April 21, the telecom leader unveiled two major improvements to its already robust Airtel spam detection system, demonstrating its commitment to protecting customers from unwanted communications.
Multi-Language Support for Diverse India
Recognizing India’s linguistic diversity, Airtel spam alerts will now be available in 10 regional languages. This thoughtful enhancement ensures that customers across the country can understand spam warnings in their preferred language, making the protection more accessible and effective. Currently, these vernacular Airtel spam notifications are available exclusively on Android devices, though we can expect wider availability in the future.
Taking the Fight International
Perhaps more significantly, Airtel’s spam detection technology has expanded its reach to international networks. This comes in response to a troubling trend: as domestic spam routes get blocked, scammers are increasingly using foreign networks to reach Indian users. In fact, overseas spam calls have jumped by 12% in just six months.
The company’s AI-powered system will now screen and flag suspicious calls and messages originating from international numbers, closing this loophole that spammers had been exploiting. This enhancement to the Airtel spam protection framework represents a proactive approach to evolving threats.

Impressive Track Record
Since its rollout in September 2024, the anti-spam program has delivered impressive results: Airtel’s detection tool now flags roughly 1,560 spam calls every second and has classified over 27.5 billion calls as unwanted. In turn, subscribers have enjoyed a 16% drop in unwanted communications.
Customer-Centric Approach
Siddharth Sharma, Bharti Airtel’s Director of Marketing and CEO of Connected Homes, noted that customer input was the key catalyst for these enhancements. Meanwhile, the company’s engineering and data science teams are continually fine-tuning the spam-prevention system to counteract new and evolving threats.
Seamless Experience
Best of all, all of Airtel’s spam-protection features are provided at no extra charge and are turned on automatically for every customer—no activation requests or complicated settings needed.
Looking Forward
As spammers and scammers continue to evolve their tactics, Airtel’s spam detection capabilities are evolving too. The company has indicated plans to add support for more languages and further enhance its spam detection algorithms in the future.
For millions of Airtel customers, these updates serve as a protective barrier against the relentless influx of unwanted communications, letting them enjoy their phones with greater calm and minimal interruptions.
